Another episode of BAD INSTALLS - How NOT to install a sliding glass door!

Surprisingly I see this all the time and it is going to leak and not roll well. 5' x 10' impact rated sliding glass door panels weigh 500 pounds each and that force is over 1,000 psi on the rollers.

I have literally seen the door panels rocking as the track sags between shim stacks. A client colorfully described it to his dealer after I pointed it out as "like a cow galloping down the road".

The proper way to install this is with high strength grout poured laser level and the track set in a continuous bed of caulk. You need to write this into your contracts with your window dealers and hold them to a higher standard. Yes, it costs more but this is absolutely critical.

I help architects, builders, and owners select, specify, and detail luxury hurricane glazing systems without dealer or manufacturer biases.
